When Sara, 6 years old, died after dealing with childhood cancer for 4 years. As a result of the impotence he felt in the face of this experience, the founder Joan Bertran decided to investigate and develop new biomaterials that can provide medical solutions to pediatric and adult oncology, and, by extension, to the health industry.

After three years of joint scientific work, in 2012 Cebiotex was set up based on the interaction between researchers from the UPC and the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu. This spin-off started its activity in 2015, after the first funding round was completed.
